The short answer

Full mouth implants can look very real. Whether they do depends less on the implants and more on how the teeth are designed: whether fake pink gum shows when you smile, whether the teeth are the right size and shade for your face, and whether your lips are supported naturally. The most natural option is a bridge that replaces only your teeth and lets them come out of your own gums, but you need enough healthy bone and gum to get it.

Why some full mouth implants look fake

  • A visible fake gum line. Most full-arch bridges include a strip of pink acrylic or ceramic gum. If it shows when you smile, the line where it meets your real gum is the biggest giveaway.
  • Teeth that are too big or bulky. Long, thick teeth often happen when the bridge has to make up for lost bone and gum.
  • Too white, too uniform. Real teeth vary slightly in shade and shape and let a little light through. Flat, bright-white teeth that all look identical read as fake.
  • Lips that look puffy or sunken. If the bridge sits too far forward or back, your lips and cheeks look different than they should.
  • Material that wears and stains. Acrylic teeth can dull and stain over the years. Zirconia holds its color much better.

Teeth only vs. teeth with fake gums

There are two basic designs for a full-arch bridge. Dentists call them FP1 and FP3:

Teeth only (FP1)Teeth + fake gums (FP3)
What it replacesJust the teethTeeth plus lost gum and bone
How it looksTeeth come out of your own gumsPink gum built into the bridge
Who it fitsPatients with enough bone and gumNearly every patient, including major bone loss
Bridge sizeSlimmer, closer to real teethThicker, to replace missing tissue

Prices are per arch with our Smile Story photo-sharing discount, and include sedation and the final zirconia bridge.

An FP3 bridge can still look very natural when the fake gum line is hidden behind your upper lip when you smile. A careful design and 3D scan show whether that will be the case for you.

What makes implant teeth look real

  • Keeping your own gums when possible. With the Advani A6™, Dr. Advani uses tissue-preserving techniques from the moment teeth are removed, so your new teeth can come out of your own gum with no pink band.
  • Teeth designed for your face. Tooth length, width and position are planned around your smile line, lips and facial proportions, not taken from a stock template.
  • Natural shade and translucency. Final bridges are zirconia, shaded so the teeth are not one flat white.
  • A test drive first. Your same-day temporary teeth let you live with the look for a few months. Shape, length and shade can be adjusted before the final bridge is made.
  • One doctor from start to finish. Dr. Advani plans the surgery and personally designs and delivers your temporary and final teeth, so the result is planned as one piece. See why that matters.

Are you a candidate for teeth without fake gums?

It depends on how much bone and gum you have now, and how much can be preserved when your remaining teeth are removed. Patients who still have their teeth, even failing ones, are often the best candidates, because the tissue can be preserved during extraction. Patients who have worn dentures for years or have major bone loss usually need the fake gum (FP3) design, and it can still look excellent.

The only way to know is a 3D CT scan. Your free consultation includes one, plus a written plan showing which design you qualify for and its exact price.

Common questions

Can full mouth dental implants look like real teeth?

Yes. Well-designed full mouth implants can look very natural. The biggest factors are whether pink fake gum shows when you smile, the shape, size and shade of the teeth, and how well the bridge supports your lips. Teeth-only designs that come out of your own gums (called FP1) look the most like natural teeth, but not every patient is a candidate.

Why do some All-on-4 implants look fake?

The most common reasons are a visible line where pink acrylic gum meets your real gum, teeth that are too long, bulky or too white, every tooth looking identical, and lips that are pushed out or sunken because the bridge was not designed around your face.

What are implants without fake gums called?

Dentists call this an FP1 bridge, meaning a fixed bridge that replaces only the teeth. At Advani Implant Institute, our teeth-only full-arch protocol is called the Advani A6™. Bridges that include pink gum are called FP3.

Will people know I have implants?

With a well-planned case, most people will not notice. Your temporary teeth also let you test the look before the final bridge is made, so shape, length and shade can be adjusted.

How much do natural-looking full mouth implants cost?

At Advani Implant Institute, a full-arch zirconia bridge is $16,875 per arch and the Advani A6™ (teeth only, no fake gums) is $21,875 per arch, both with our Smile Story photo-sharing discount and both including IV or oral sedation. Financing is available with approved credit.
